Sestriere in the Piemonte region of Italy was the first purpose built ski resort in the Alps, and really is the perfect destination for any mountain sports enthusiast due to its high altitude and excellent facilities. Having hosted many winter sports events, it offers guaranteed snow coverage and varied terrain to please all levels of skier. The town itself boasts non-skiing entertainments which are just as comprehensive, with restaurants, bars, shops, fitness centres, cinemas and more to keep visitors happy when the lifts have closed. Whilst the architecture is mostly modern, with very little obvious historical heritage, the early twentieth century pseudo-Romanesque church in the centre of town contains some interesting artefacts which visitors should enjoy. Turin Airport is only 1 hour 20 minutes away by airport shuttle or airport taxi, and Milan Malpensa and Linate, and Bergamo Airports are also nearby.
